We recently held a competition for a Weekend Break for 2 at the Chy An Albany Hotel. The draw took place on 26th April and we are delighted to announce that Mrs Isobelle Bimson from Durham was the draw winner. Congratulations from all of us! Click here for an image of the draw.

10th - 19th April - Easter Breaks at Chy-an-Albany Hotel

25th April - Trevithick Day
Camborne Trevithick Day is an annual celebration of the heritage and mining heritage of the area, with the focus on Richard Trevithick, pioneer of high pressure steam power.  This takes the form of a community festival of free entertainment on the main streets of Camborne, which are closed for the day.

2nd & 3rd May - Giant Bolster Weekend
Join St Agnes to celebrate the raise and fall of a local legend, Giant Bolster.  Starting with a lantern and torch procession through the village to the top of St Agnes Beacon, ending in a large bonfire and barbecue.

1st to 4th May - St Ives May Day
St Ives welcomes the return of the summer in the way it has for 500 years.  These special May Day festivities include a parade, bands, Maypole dancing, a harbour market, street entertainment and the unique peewhip - all presided over by the May King and Queen.

8th May - Helston Flora Day
The day starts with the 7am dance flowed by the boisterous dance come play called Hal-an-Tow.  Next to follow at about 10.30am is the children's dance and at noon, the main dance of the day is started.  There are many stalls selling souvenirs, crafts and food, running all the way down to Coronation Park where a large fairground is set up.

16th May - 20th September - The Tate Gallery, St Ives
Contemporary Fine and Applied Arts: 1928-2009 ~
The Tate, St Ives presents seven autonomous but complementary one room displays by seven international artists and makers.  Bringing together historic and contemporary figures working throughout the last 80 years in both fine and applied art, the exhibitions set up various conversations around art, design, the development and influence of the avant-garde, and its subsequent assimilation into mainstream culture.

22nd - 29th June - Golowan Festival
A colourful festival combining live music, street theatre, processions and other events, held annually in June.  Based on the age old celebrations of the Feast of St John.

13th July - Stithians Show
Stithians Show is one of the largest and oldest of the day shows in the country.  It is held annually in July and the attendance is in excess of 20,000 people each year.  Some of the attractions include a cattle show, horse show, vehicles, fairground, plus St Stithians silver Band playing through-out the day.

14th July - 'Oasis' at Eden
The Eden Sessions are the Eden Project's series of one-day summer festivals of live music in Cornwall, UK.  The Eden Project and Oasis have officially announced a new date for the band to play at the Eden.  The concert on July 14th is the first announcement for Eden's 2009 summer music programme.

24th August - Newlyn Fish Festival (date to be confirmed)
Newlyn celebrates the heritage of fishing and seagoing which have been a vital part of Cornish life since time began!  The harbour is filled with fishing boats of all types and sizes, as well as visiting boats ranging from modern naval craft to wooden sailing ships.  Many of the boats are open to visitors who can learn much of the hardships experienced by the men who make it their living.

12th - 26th September - St Ives September Festival
This arts and music festival features many local artist, events, open studios, folk, jazz, classical and contemporary music.  There are poetry readings, local theatre groups and talks on a wide range of subjects taking place in a wide range of venues.

3rd October - 10th January 2010 - The Tate Gallery, St Ives
The Dark Monarch ~
This group exhibition-which takes its title from the infamous 1962 book by Sven Berlin-explores the influence of folklore, mysticism, mythology and the occult on the development of modernism and surrealism; in particular with relation to the landscape and legends of Britain and Cornwall.

December - Christmas Parties
Book your Christmas party here at The Chy-an-Albany Hotel.  We are also hosting festive lunches throughout the month or alternatively, come and stay over the festive Christmas and New Year period for which we have special packages arranged.
